For the Love of Sailing - Valentine's Day TT4 @ HHSC!

by Melissa Williams-Brown

The final event of the Travellers Trophy was held yesterday at Hunter's Hill Sailing Club.  It was a hot, steamy morning with light winds followed by a much cooler and breezier afternoon when the southerly came through.  On the waters just off Cockatoo Island, there were 114 Optimist sailors competing in this event with over 80 in the open fleet.  Our green fleet started the day with a marathon race around cockatoo island and then spectacle island while the open fleet battled it out on their course.

The team at HHSC were amazing hosts!  This wonderful club is very passionate about kids' sailing and with a dedicated team of volunteers, they always endeavor to make events fun and interesting for the kids.  Thank you to Chris Stannage, Stuart McIntyre, Andrew Curtin and everyone else there that made this day a fabulous event for the kids and parents.

Our sponsors and supporters for this event were, Boat Crew Gear, Coffee with Bite and Saltwater Insurance Consultants.   Thank you very much for your support and generosity; without you, events like this would not be a success.  Hi-res photos from the event will be posted later this week and parents can download them at no charge.  Please remember they are for personal use (printing for personal use, social media sharing, etc.) only.

Results from the day can be found here; please keep in mind that this is the scoring for the Open fleet.  If your child sailed in the Intermediate fleet for the previous events in the TT series, he/she will be scored as Intermediate.  The overall winners of the 2015-16 TT series will be announced at the Trinity Point NSW Optimist State Championship that will be held at SLMASC over the March 19th weekend.

I'm not sure if this has ever happened during a TT event, but yesterday, we had a five way tie for first place.  With scoring based on countback, the results ended up with:

1st - Archie Cropley (WSC)

2nd - Cole Tapper (WSC)

3rd - Jack Ferguson (NSC)

4th - Mina Ferguson (Jack's sister) (NSC)

5th - Daniel Links (RPAYC)

6th - Ryan Littlechild (WSC)

7th - Fletcher Walters (RPAYC)

8th - Bella Green (RPAYC)

9th - Finley Scade (WSC)

10th - Morgan Wells (RPAYC)

Congratulations to coach Traks Gordon (RPAYC) and coach Rob Brewer (NB SailSports) on the success of their sailors!

That's great - we want you to have your say and share your thoughts with the world. However, we have a few rules that you must follow to keep it fun for all. Please don't be rude, abusive, swear or vilify others. Apart from some pretty serious sport sanctions, we also can ban you and report you if things get out of hand. So play fair and have fun, and thanks for your contribution.
