Blinking Billy 18 March 2016

by

This week is the last for the Sandy Bay Sailing Club's 2015/16 season,  and it looks like being a good day for sailing. There is a a lot happening again with Adult Sailing, Tackers, Grommets, Forward hand racing, and the final pennant races with this week's races points counting toward both the DSS and SBSC Pennant series.

I would like to thanks everyone for their efforts this year, it has been a real pleasure to have been involved in a club where everyone pitches in and helps and I know all of the sailors appreciate your efforts.

After sailing this week there will be a free BBQ on the lawn (with ice creams for kids and an Easter egg hunt), so please take the time and join us in celebrating the end of the SBSC sailing season.

Attention All SBSC sailors

compulsory competitors briefing will be held prior to sailing onSaturday the 19th March 1230hrs upstairs at the Sandy Bay Sailing Club. The discussion will involve on water behaviour, obeying rules, taking penalties and fair sailing. The SBSC sailing committee will be introducing an on water jury to oversee the final Pennant races on that day. Johnathan Reese will be the juror for the day and he will explain his role and what he looks for in relation to propulsion, rule 69 and to answer any questions prior to hitting the water. MIDWEEK COACHING

This is the last week of midweek coaching for the season and I would like to congratulate all the sailors who have participated. From my observations on the water there has been a substantial improvement in sailing skills, from the youngest to the more experienced. Midweek training is just a part of the formula to improvement, with time on the water and a positive attitude also being key to increasing performance.

We are now completing the third season of this program and massive thanks go to the coaches; the quality of your coaching is a credit to you as individuals and to SBSC. Prior to Christmas the 'Coach the Coaches' program funded by SBSC had Chris Steele NZ sailor (currently doing the world match racing circuit and extreme sailing series on the GC 32's) doing hands on coaching with the club coaches during midweek and club coaching.

I would also like to thank Alex for shore coordination and all parents for having your children involved and volunteering your assistance when required.

Regards

Stuart Hamilton
