Commodore's Message

This Saturday brings to an end SBSC racing for the first half of the season with a trophy race. At the conclusion of racing we will enjoy the SBSC Christmas party (hopefully Santa will remember), as well as the announcement of the Tasmanian Tillett Team for the upcoming Cadet nationals.

I would like to thank all the volunteers that have contributed to a very successful first half of the season and wish every member a wonderful festive season.

In particular I would like to wish all sailors and their families heading off to national sailing events good luck and safe travels.

Thanks
Angus Sprott - Commodore
SBSC Christmas Party - This Saturday
You are invited to the Sandy Bay Sailing Club Christmas drinks and nibbles on Saturday 12th December commencing at the end of the day's sailing (4:30 - 6:00pm).

Father Christmas will hopefully be in attendance to distribute good cheer and presents. Traditionally boat helms and crews provide a small gift for each other while someone (a parent) provides a small gift for solo sailors. Santa is also very happy to hand out presents to siblings who may be at the party. There will be a number of marked garbage bags in the canteen on the day of the Christmas Party to deposit gifts. Gifts up to the value of $10.

Duty Roster

The rosters is available on the website. Please check your availability and arrange replacements from the pool of volunteers as required.
  • Mark boat crews leave from the DSS where the mark boats are kept.
  • If there are races in the am then check with B. Dwyer for start times. More generally on race days, mark boats are expected on the course by 1230.

Green Fleet
Come early and enjoy the last day of sailing for the year.
But before sailing let’s all check our boats. Sail ties, mast rake and ensure our bailers are tied in correctly. All this makes sailing easier, faster and more enjoyable.
Tim will be taking Green fleet in the afternoon. Briefing at 1pm.
Cheers Ric

Chris Steele

This week has been a solid week with coaches and sailors all very focused on the task.

Chris will be midweek coaching on Monday and Tuesday night before travelling to Sail Melbourne for a Nationals warm up series with the Optimist team consisting of 9 boats. Last Sunday was set for on water activities however due to low winds time was spent briefing on regatta preparation and checking boats.

Not all sailing is hard work as Chris and the kids found
out for his birthday – Thanks to Hugo for
some long kitchen hours.

Lost Property Update
Thankyou to everyone who claimed their lost property last week. There's still a lot of items in the change rooms.

This Saturday all the lost property will be out on display (girls and boys stuff), please have a look through it so we can clean up the change rooms ready for the new year.
Sharpie Nationals 31 Dec – 9 Jan

Canteen Volunteers Needed
SBSC will be hosting the Sharpie National Championships from 31st December until 8 January and we require Canteen Volunteers. This is a Sandy Bay Sailing Club run event.  Due to so many members being away we call upon anyone (non-members welcome, especially those with Sharpie contacts) to assist. All proceeds go towards our Club – this event has the potential to raise a great deal of money so if you can spare some hours on any of these dates please call Pip Cooper 0408 661 353 or pip@swanport.com.au  The results of your contribution will go straight back to our club for improvements, equipment and programs.

Cleaners Wanted
During the Sharpie Nationals we require one or two cleaners each day, typically from 6pm to clean the club and change rooms. This would suit someone looking for a little extra cash. If you are interested please contact Nick Connor on PH 0417 340 584.
