Term 1 2018
Please see notice of meeting for The Tasmanian International 420 Class Association, to be held 20/10/15 at the DSS at 6 pm.
Sam Abel, the reigning International Cadet World Champion, along with his great crew Nick Smart, has ventured into this class and is intending to pursue racing on the Derwent this season complemented by participation in the forthcoming ‘Sail Melbourne’, the NSW events in the New Year and some coaching from 420 experts in the next few weeks, leading to Xmas.
As the current President of the Tasmanian 420 Association I have nominated Guy Abel for the Presidential role but that will have to be ratified at the forthcoming meeting. I have offered to remain in some capacity to assist the Association in again nurturing interest in young sailors in the 420 Class.
Nick Hutton advises there are some young sailors showing interest in the 420 Class; they and their parents are urged and invited to attend the meeting on 20/10/16 at the DSS to ensure that the 420 Class can be nurtured and again activated.
Despite some views that the 420 Class is solely a ‘youth boat’, there are views also expressed that it is not and the Class provides fun and excitement for sailors with some sailing experience who are outside the ‘youth age’. Hence ,the invitation to attend the meeting is also extended to all sailors who have not sailed for a little while and are outside the ‘youth age’ but would like to participate in an exciting, ‘quick planing’ boat- the 420 is just that.
Regards to all
