Commodore's Report

With the quieter winter months upon us there has still been a lot going on around the club preparing for the upcoming season, and I have also observed many sailors out doing winter training and keeping up their skills. Some of these sailors headed off to winter escapes competing in Qld Youth Week and Sail Brisbane with some good results across all classes. Of particular note I'd like to wish Angus Price / Archie Ibbot (Little Devil), Sam Abel / Hugo Allison (Phoenix), and Will Cooper / Laura Cooper (Impulse), all the best for the Cadet World Championships, which start this weekend.

As we near the start of the new season, I would like to encourage all current and prospective members to join us for the annual Code P Pre Season Drinks on Friday 4 September.  This is a great chance to catch up in a social atmosphere before the pace picks up as the season draws near. Save the date for now and details will be out in a couple of weeks time.

Finally, I would like to congratulate the new inductees to the Yachting Tasmania Hall of Fame, including our very own Nick Connor (Immediate Past Commodore)along with three other past SBSC members Andrew Hunn, Julian Freeman and David Rees.

Cadet World Championships 2015 - Riva Italy

Use of Club Assets

As we head into the warmer weather I would like to remind club members of their obligations regarding the use of Club Assets.

Use of club assets is only available to members of SBSC for private us.  On-water assets are only available to full membership categories who have completed a current formal induction and who have been provided with a login to the Resource Booking system.  Only bookings through this system are recognised.

If you believe you should have access or would like access then please contact Angus on 0409 011 448 or commodore@sandybaysailingclub.org.au.

Yachting Tasmania - Instructors Conference

Yachting Tasmania's Instructors Conference will be held at the Derwent Sailing Squadron on August 22. This is a fantastic opportunity for club instructors to network, up-skill and learn off each others skills and techniques. Current instructors should all receive emails from Yachting Tasmania about the conference shortly. Any current, lapsed or soon-to be instructors can register their attendance at http://www.yachtingaustralia.com.au/Entry/?EID=72082

SBSC encourages all current instructors and assistant instructors to attend.

Boat Storage -  Volunteer Coordinator required

The club committee is looking for a volunteer to assist with the co-ordination of boat storage for the club. This involves being the primary contact for the allocation of storage in the two sheds for Optimists, Cadets and Lasers utilising the club storage facility.

There is no better way to ensure you get a ground floor allocation!

Interested members should contact Angus on 0409 011 448 or commodore@sandybaysailingclub.org.au for further details.

Crew and Helm Register

Are you interested in crewing on a cadet, 29er, sharpie?
Do you need a new crew for the upcoming season?

Anna, a German exchange student and experienced sailor, recently arrived in Tasmania and has approached the club interested in a crew position on a 420 (or potentially a 29er or Sharpie). Anna is also open helming a cadet in the upcoming season. If you are interested in taking Anna for a sail please contact Angus on 0409 011 448 or commodore@sandybaysailingclub.org.au and I will pass on her details.

Vice-commodore Fe Allison is also coordinating a register to try and match children for the coming season. Fe is currently away at the World Cadet Championships but you can express interest with a quick email to vice-commodore@sandybaysailingclub.org.au
