Commodores Update

As our minds turn to winter sports don't to RSVP for Prize Night.  For parents the AGM will be held immediately before prize night and it is essential that sufficient numbers attend for this meeting to go ahead.   Last night we held our third Night of Memories event looking at the Cadet Class at SBSC up until the 1969 World Championships.  A big thank you to Peter Read who has done a fantastic job on gathering our history and provided a riveting presentation on the cadet class at SBSC.
 
AGM and Prize Night - Saturday 16 May
            
Where: Derwent Sailing Squadron, Marieville Esplanade, Sandy Bay 

When: Saturday 24th May
            5:00pm - AGM
            5:45pm - Prize Dinner

Cost for extra tickets: $15 children 12 or younger and $20 per adult
Menu to include;
 
Curry and Rice.
Pasta dish.
Vegetarian dish which will be gluten free.
Fish and chips.
French salad ,coleslaw bread rolls and condiments.
Ice cream to finish.
 
Main meals will be served buffet style.

Notice to Club Coaches

On Saturday and Sunday 23-24th May 2015 SBSC will be running a, “Coach the Coaches” course.
The course will be run by Sean Bly with Tony Bull and Elliott Noye working with Sean to deliver coaching knowledge including Coaching
Philosophy, Planning & Evaluation, Athlete Characteristics, Physical Conditioning, boat handling, starts, regatta coaching and on water training techniques.
All club coaches are urged to attend this and the following weekend for some on water practicals.
 
This course is fully funded by SBSC for the benefit of all members and available to anyone who is coaching or assisting with coaching and over the age of 15 years - please email stuart.hamilton@southernlighting.com.au to register your desire to attend – course numbers are limited and notification of acceptance will be sent out closer to the event.

Cadets - ICC National Training Camp

June Long Weekend ICC National training Camp.
Where: SBSC
When: June 6, 7, 8.
Time: First briefing 10.30am Saturday 7 June
 
Everyone invited and encouraged to attend.
This annual event will once again include the last get together of the Australian Cadet team prior to leaving for Europe
National Coach, Tony Bull will be in attendance
Several other leading local coaches participating.
Come along and have fun in the sun !!!!
Fleet V will be organizing a BBQ after sailing on Saturday and all sailors/classes are warmly invited to attend a fun, social gathering.

Confirmation of your attendance is important to ensure we have adequate coaches and support vessels.


 
First Aid Course for Club Members

With the support of Ian Cooksey from Marine Solutions Tasmania, SBSC is offering members the opportunity to gain an accredited first aid and resuscitation qualification.
This course will consist of two x three hour sessions held over two evenings. The course will include the use of the clubs resuscitation equipment and on-water trauma kits.
As the course co-ordinator is donating their time, we are able to offer the course at cost (accreditation fee + face shields), so don’t miss a great opportunity to gain or update your first aid qualification at a reduced rate.
For those who hold current first aid certificate, but wish to update their annual CPR certification, you are able to attend a single session on Thursday.
These qualifications are also well regarded in many workplaces.
