Commodores Message

At last Saturday official opening I announced that our new 4.2 M Rigid Inflatable has been named the "Hutton".  This follows the long tradition at SBSC to name our boats after those that have put in to the club over many years.  The Hutton extended family is certainly one that has made an enormous contribution to SBSC over some 15 years.  Both Nick and Sally are life members, Bridget can be seen on the Juicy Isle most weekends and Patrick and Louise are regular contributors when they return to Hobart from their interstate homes.  As Commodore I am please to finally be able to tell a Hutton what to do.

The move to 4 school terms has given us the opportunity to have a soft start to the season and with the AFL Grand Final this Saturday we will be running a series of short races, starting at 10:00 am with the aim of being off the water by around 1:00 pm. Please note there are 3 changes to the SBSC sailing instructions for this Saturday (start time, course and race time limit). The revised sailing instructions for this Saturday are here.

The canteen roster for September, October, November and December has been updated, thank you to those people who included their names last weekend. Please check the website for the updated roster. Tess Henry has kindly offered to host a Safe Food Handling session for all those people who may be thinking of helping in the Sandy Bay Sailing Club canteen.  Please join her for a drink and a brief informative talk at the club on Tuesday 21

Hill Street Midweek Coaching for Optimist, Cadet and Laser

The Hill Street Midweek Coaching commences in the week of 13 October and concludes on 27 March 2015. Registrations are now open and rosters are being organised. To avoid disappointment, nominate your preferred day/s AND RETURN YOUR FORM BY THIS FRIDAY.

Groups are maximised with no more than 6 sailors per coach. Finalising the roster is complex - we try to fit every child with their preferred day with appropriate age and level of sailors with them; however if we receive late registrations it may well be that the placing is not the best available.

This is a strong training program, all are encouraged and recommended to participate.
For registration details go to website link here.

Canteen News

In order to accommodate the needs of busy families the canteen roster will be divided into a morning shift and an afternoon shift for the upcoming sailing season.  Each shift will include a coordinator and 2 general volunteers (6 people needed per day).  We are really looking forward to seeing some new helpers alongside the old regulars.  Please show your interest in becoming part of the volunteer group who run the canteen by contacting Emma Hamilton (mob:0409252538 or email:emma.hamilton@bigpond.com.au).  You can volunteer to help on a regular basis or just on specific days that suit you, all help is greatly appreciated.
