Commodore's Message

What a great night it was on Saturday night at the Derwent Sailing Squadron (DSS) and thank you for all those that made the night possible. Congratulations to all participants and prize winners. The annual prize winners are listed on our website here.
For those who missed the news, SBSC has executed an agreement with the DSS providing mutual membership benefits across both clubs. More details of these benefits will be provided going forward and keep your eye out for DSS run courses on a variety of topics (see below).
The unveiling of the new SBSC logo has been well received and progressively over the next couple of months signage will be updated. The General Committee will also be considering a range of merchandise options now that our branding has been refreshed.

June Long Weekend - Canteen Assistance Required

HELP We are expecting 70- 80 sailors for the June long weekend training camp.  We will be running two canteen shifts,8am to 12pm and 12pm to close of sailing.

No experience required we'll show you the ropes, dad's welcomed!

Cadet Worlds Team Quiz Night

The Quiz Night is this Saturday at the Derwent Sailing Squadron. Make a table of 8 or ask Emma Hamilton to help you join a group and come to a fabulous night out. You’ll be helping to support the sailors going to the Cadet World Championship being held in Weymouth, UK in August.
The evening begins at 7:30 pm, everyone is welcome, and there are great prizes including a lucky door prize!

TIODA Training Long Weekend
The last training session for this season will be held at SBSC from Sat 7th – Mon 9th June 2014. Dave O’Connor from Sydney will be flying in for the long weekend to fulfill the role as Head Coach.

North Sails Extreme Optimist Series
Get ready to go Opti sailors – Stewart Gray and North Sails has kindly sponsored an Extreme Winter Series which includes training and racing, for intermediate and open fleet sailors.
4 weeks left - 31 May, 14, 21 and 28 June. 

The daily sailing program looks like this...
1.00pm - 1.20pm rigging and changed ready for briefing
1.20pm - 1.30pm briefing on training activities and daily prize criteria
1.30pm - 2.15pm training and skill session
2.15pm - 3.00pm racing
3.00pm - 3.30pm unrig debrief and daily prize 

If you want to increase your performance just turn up at SBSC on Saturday and join in the fun.

Cadet Training Camp - 7, 8 & 9 June, SBSC
Come and join the Australian Cadet Team as they prepare for the UK World Championship. Along with National Coach Tony Bull, State Coaches will be in attendance.

Come and have some fun in the sun !!!! Learn heaps and receive some really focused coaching.
Boats may be available for interstate sailors but please book early. If you do not intend to participate in the training, please let Paul know if you would be interested in chartering/lending your boat to interstate visitors.

Dinghy Groups Winter Series - RYCT

29 June, 20 July, 10 August & 31 August, Organising Committee is the RYCT Dinghy Group
The following classes are invited to enter the RYCT Dingy Group Winter Series:  Sabots, Optimists, Cadets, Flying 11s, Lasers, 420s, 29ers, B14s, Moths, Sharpies, 2.4s.  Other classes are welcome to enter at the discretion of the Race Committee.

If anyone is interested in participating, they will be most welcome - just bring along the entry form to the start boat and you're in!  First warning is 10.00am.
