Blinking Billy 27 March 2014

Post Race BBQ
Following the afternoon racing this Saturday there will be a complimentary BBQ for all members to mark the completion of the Pennant Series for this year.  Of course refreshments will be available, all welcome.

Pennant Results
This weekend marks the final day of racing for both the DSS and SBSC Pennant Series.  The introduction of an extended Pennant series this year has produced some close results with several Pennants still up for grabs.

Sam Tiedemann and Will Connor look to have the 29er Pennants for both clubs secured. The Cadet Pennants has Executioner leading both pennants from Little Devil but a very close finish is expected with only 5 points separating them in the SBSC Pennant and 9 points in the DSS Pennant series.  Phoenix remains a chance in the DSS Pennant on 13 points, 1 point behind Little Devil and 6 points behind Executioner.

The Optimist Pennant appear to be a Hamilton affair with RSUP leading the SBSC Pennant by 4 points and the DSS Pennant by 11 points from younger brother Hugo sailing Fluro with Iki Moku (Fynn Sprott) equal second.  Sea Chili is just outside a podium position and a good weekend may see Charlie steal a third overall.

Hugo Hamilton Sponsored Long Distance Sail
To assist with the expenses of competing overseas Hugo Hamilton will be attempting to sail to the Iron Pot Lighthouse and return a distance of nearly 22 nautical miles.   He will be departing from SBSC at 7am and is expected to return mid afternoon.  You have the ability to support Hugo by sponsoring this attempt and online sponsorships can be done here:

End of Financial Year
The SBSC financial year ends on 31 March and all members are encouraged to pay outstanding accounts as soon as possible.
First Aid Course for Club Members
The SBSC are offering members the opportunity to gain an accredited first aid and resuscitation qualification for the cost price of $100. This course will consist of two x three hour sessions held over two evenings on 6 and 8 May. The course will include the use of the clubs resuscitation equipment and on-water trauma kits.
The course will be offered to all club members, however in the first instance we are encouraging all club instructors, coaches and rescue boat crews to attend. If the course is oversubscribed, consideration will be given to running a second course.

Midweek Training
Next week is the last week of midweek training – we are stopping a week earlier than advertised as daylight savings will leave us with no light the week after. We have fulfilled our 15 weeks of training since the start in October and the program has been very successful with many highlights and lessons learnt. The coaches have been fabulous and I extend many thanks to them and the dedication and time they have put into the program.

The most important aspect of the coaching is of course the sailors –  the feeling around the club, the happy faces and improvements in each child’s sailing skills has been noted by many and I am very pleased with our first year of this training program which is truly a first in Australia.  A very special thanks to Hill Street for their support of this new initiative.  Based on feedback this program will run again next year and the Committee will review the program looking for improvements next year.

Canteen Tabs
It is the end of the month, and essentially the season. TABS will be emailed on Sunday, so be aware that March has been a big sailing month with 6 sailing days for most, and that TABs may be larger than usual!

Green fleet
With light winds forecast this Saturday it is most important to set your boats up correctly. Soft luff (lots of twists), out hall eased, little Vang and just enough sprit to remove creases plus check your mast rake. Have you boats ready and Stu, Angus or Ric will check them before the briefing.
Briefing 1230hrs.

This weekend an introduction to a short race. Our coaches will be on the water to assist with starting and getting around a small course.
Just a reminder to sign on before sailing and sign off at the end of sailing.
Briefing down stairs at 1250hrs.

Cheers Ric

There will be Cadet training on Saturday morning. Please be rigged, changed and ready for briefing by 10.30am with Paul.
