Blinking Billy 4th October 2016

Blinking Billy Newsletter - 4th October 2016

This week will see loads of activity at the club. As well as the second trophy race for the season, the Australian International Cadet Team will be training in Hobart under the guidance of Tony Bull from Friday to Sunday, and Lizzi is running a 29er camp over the same three days.

It is also the combined clubs open days for the three keel boat clubs so there will be a lot of activity on the river and I would urge all sailors to be on the lookout for other boats, especially the big ones!

Weather is looking good, partly cloudy with light north westerlies so should be a great weekend.

And don't forget registrations for mid-week coaching close this week, there is a coaches only nights coming up, and the sailor survey needs to be completed. See Lizzi's corner below for details.

The first camp is done and dusted with 21 *brand new* sailors down at the club!  Led by Coach Lizzi, the team of Meg, Harry and Penelope did a fantastic job running land and water learning sessions for the new grommets-to-be.  And a big thank you to Matilda, Oscar, Eddie and Lawrence who hopped in boats with the new sailors to help them learn the ropes!

SBSC Volunteering Roster

The success of our club isn't just seen in the growth of our fleets.  Sandy Bay Sailing Club relies on the strong support of parents, carers and supporters who help not only on weekends but throughout the week.  The work never ends!

Please show your support by volunteering - If you have not already signed up, please approach any of our committee members or coaches to see how you can help. Rosters are being drafted now!

A special call for volunteers for our On Water - Rib Crews -  The first of our Patrol Boat Inductions for new crews/members will be held from this Saturday at 10am.  If you can't meet this Saturday, we'll be running the same induction every Saturday at the same time.  It's a great way to watch on-water action and learn from many of our more experienced sailing families. Sandy Bay Sailing Club is once again offering a Sail and Play Holiday Program during the school holidays. The program is held over two days and is for children aged 7-12 years who are able to swim confidently, interested in learning about boats, getting wet, sailing and being safe in and around the water.

Qualified instructors will be offering fun and educational activities that will allow children to experience being on the water in different types of boats and having a whole lot of fun! Numbers are limited and a full wetsuit is recommended. Sandy Bay Sailing Club will also run their Tackers 1 and 2 learn to sail programs this sailing season beginning at the end of October. These courses are very popular, so early registration is recommended. Tackers is a 20 hour course run on Saturday mornings and is an introducing to learning how to sail your own boat. Qualified instructors will provide informative and exciting activities that will develop sailing skills, while all importantly focusing on having fun around boats.

Dates – Sail and Play - 5th and 6th October

(Tackers - Saturday mornings beginning 22nd October)

Time - 9am-3pm

Venue – Sandy Bay Sailing Club
