Commodore's Message

This weekend is SBSC Pennant racing, This week the course will be run by RYCT Off-the-Beach. Weather is looking light at the moment so a good chance for all sailors to get out on the main course.  This week we are extending our afternoon coaching programs to the Green Fleet Optimists. Josh Brown one of the clubs senior instructors will be assisting all green fleet sailors who wish to race. Josh will be available from 12:30pm on Sat and will escort the green fleet sailors to the race course and provide encouragement and assistance on the water.

After sailing this weekend and for the remainder of this season  we will be operating a BBQ from 4:00pm on race days. So stay around and enjoy a sausage or burger. All funds raised will be put towards the RIB replacement ans refurbishment program.

As I mentioned last week, we have a couple of big weekends coming up with the running of seven state titles in various classes. the Notices of Race and all entry forms are now on the website and entries will close on the Thursday evening prior to the event so please enter early.  Grommet and Green fleet Opti sailors are especially encouraged to join in and enter the regatta. SBSC will be providing support boats and coaches specifically for this group.

Finally, next weekend is the Crown Series, the Bellerive Yacht Club have requested all competitors wishing to race to enter as early as possible. There is no racing on at SBSC this weekend as we will be assisting Bel;lerive with the Crown Series. Tackers Grommets and Green Fleet will all operate out of SBSC as usual with grommet and green fleets combining.

Midweek Coaching

Has commenced this week – all sailors are in the same group as last year unless I have advised you differently. Invoicing will be sent out next week.

I am glad to welcome Sam Abel onto the coaching team. Sam (who needs no introduction) is the current World Champion and will input plenty of knowledge into the Cadet fleet.
Can all sailors note; should you not be available for a sailing session please email, sms, text or phone your coach (not me) and advise them preferably the day prior to the session.

Everyone is reminded to be ready to go at 4.30pm (start rigging no later than 4pm); your session finishes at 6.30pm after your debrief which is an important part of the learning process - this gives the coaches time to reinforce the techniques and skills learnt on the day.

Don’t forget your notebook – and enjoy the pleasant Autumn breezes.
