Blinking Billy 4 February 2016

Commodore's Message

This week is the 5th & 6th DSS Pennant Races, and the weather is looking good for an afternoon sea breeze. Perfect weather for sailing. We also have the first adult Learn to Sail program commencing on Sat morning, which is very exciting for all involved. This course was so popular it was booked out within 48 hours.

A couple of housekeeping items this week. Firstly, the United service station on Sandy Bay Road has closed and we will be temporarily moving the club keys to the DSS. The keys should be in place at the DSS Bar next week and to collect you will need to present your SBSC membership card. Note that the DSS is not open on Sunday's or public holidays so if you need access on those days you will need to pre-plan. Secondly there have been some reports of mistreatment of gear in the sheds. please remember to be careful with other people's equipment. If you need to move someone's boat make sure it is returned to the same spot and please never 'borrow' gear without the permission of the owner.

Finally, toward the end of this month we will be running or assisting with quite a few full weekend regattas. Firstly we are assisting with the Bellerive Crown Series on 20/21 Feb, then SBSC is running seven State titles over the following two weekends: 27/28 Feb - Optimists, 29ers, Sabots; 5/6 Mar - Cadets, Paper Tigers, Sharpies, Flying 11s. This will be an intense few weeks and I would ask all members to be available as per the rosters, or organise early swaps! Our friends at the RYCT Off-the-Beach will be assisting with safety and finish boats as well. I would encourage as many sailors to participate in these regatta's as possible, in particular it would be great to see as many grommet and green fleet optimists out on the course as possible. SBSC club boats will be available for use. Entries for all state championship events will open next week.

If it's not yours - don't use it
Unfortunately it appears people have been using boats, sailing gear and equipment without permission by the owners. Consequently gear has gone missing when required and items never recovered.   Please gain permission before using anything that is not yours.
NB: The club has CCTV security cameras installed.
