Blinking Billy 5 November

Commodore's Message

This Friday evening Sam Abel and Hugo Allison are headed to Sydney for the 2015 Yachting Awards. Sam and Hugo were nominated by SBSC for Yachting Australia's Youth Sailors of the Year Award and have been named as finalists in that category. I wish both Sam and Hugo the best of luck on Friday night. Updates will be posted to the SBSC Facebook page.

Congratulations also to all SBSC sailors for your efforts at the Showdown last weekend. There were some difficult sailing conditions, excellent racing and good results by many. Well done everyone.

Changes to SBSC and RYCT Sailing Instructions - Flag Uniform

SBSC and RYCT agreed to include a new preparatory signal Flag U in our combined Sailing Instructions under Clause 12 The Start. This is in line with national and international championships so it’s important that our sailors are familiar with this rule.
The change will come into effect on Saturday 7 November. We encourage all Classes to include a discussion of the U Flag in their pre-race briefing for competitors.
Flag Uniform looks like this:
The wording in the Sailing Instructions is as follows:
12      The Start
If Flag U has been displayed as the preparatory signal, no part of a boat’s hull, crew or equipment shall be in the triangle formed by the ends of the Starting line and the first mark during the last minute before her starting signal. If a boat breaks this rule and is identified she shall be disqualified without a hearing but not if the race is restarted or resailed or postponed or abandoned before the starting signal. This changes rule 26.

Duty Roster

The November roster is now available on the website. Please check your availability and arrange replacements from the pool of volunteers as required.
  • Mark boat crews leave from the DSS where the mark boats are kept.
  • If there are races in the am then check with B. Dwyer for start times. More generally on race days, mark boats are expected on the course by 1230.

You may have noticed some new rubbish bins about the club with yellow lids.  Would you please use these for all recyclable rubbish – cans, bottles (plastic & aluminium), cardboard & paper.  Please do not put general rubbish or plastic rubbish bags in them.

When using the wheelie bins in the trailer park, please put rubbish in the appropriate bins.
Note to 29ers and Lasers etc – when putting your boats away, please ensure you maintain a distance of at least a metre away from the rubbish bins so that the Council contractors can move the bins in and out easily.  If they cannot access the bins they will not move the boats, nor empty the bins so your co-operation would be appreciated.
