Commodore's Report
Congratulations to Sandy Bay Sailing Club’s Sam Abel and Hugo Allison, the new International Cadet World Champions. It was wonderful to see these two members of SBSC performing so well at the recent championships, and they are a credit to themselves, their families, their club, their state and their country. This was an outstanding effort by these two sailors, as was the efforts of SBSC’s other representatives, the crews of Angus Price & Archie Ibbot 4th overall, and William Cooper & Laura Cooper 12th overall.

I would encourage all members of the club to come along and meet the Worlds Cadet crews at the upcoming Code P function on the 4th September. All club members are welcome, both adults and children, and there will be a presentation by the sailors of their experiences at Lake Garda. This is an event not to be missed.

While we are celebrating, the new season is approaching fast with the club registration day on the 19th September, and the first trophy race (to shake out the winter cold) will be held on the 26th September.  This season we are holding Opening Day a little later on the 17th October which will coincide with the first SBSC pennant race.
I look forward to seeing you all at the Code P function in a couple of weeks.

SBSC Membership Fees for 2015/16 Season
At the last meeting the SBSC committee reviewed fees for 2015/16 season and has kept the fees the exactly same as last season as the committee felt that the fees were appropriate at this time.  The fact that the club is now registered for GST will not affect the2015/16 fees, which are now inclusive of GST, as follows:

Individual                            $270 (inc GST)
Family                                $400 (inc GST)
Social – Individual              $100 (inc GST)
Social - Family                   $150 (inc GST)
Code P Function - Friday 4 September

I would encourage all members of the club to come along and meet the crews at the upcoming Code P function on the 4th September. All club members are welcome, both adults and children, and there will be a presentation by the sailors of their experiences at Lake Garda. This is an event not to be missed.

Cadet World Championships 2015 - Riva Italy
Congratulations to Tasmania's and Australia's newest World Champions Sam Abel / Hugo Allison (Phoenix) who secured first place in an outstanding performance at the Cadet World Championships, Lake Garda, Italy.

Congratulations must also be extended to Angus Price / Archie Ibbot (Little Devil) for their 4th place overall, and Will Cooper / Laura Cooper (Impulse) 12th place overall. This is an outstanding effort by all of the SBSC sailors, and shows the depth and quality of the sailing at our small club.

Instructor Conference
News from Yachting Tasmania: Unfortunately due to the low number of participants who expressed interest or pre-registered for the State Instructor Conference to be held this coming Sat 22 August, Yachting Tasmania will be postponing this event until a later date.
I’d like to remind all SBSC instructors the importance of these events for maintaining your qualifications and would encourage you to all register early when this event is rescheduled.

Cadet News - 2015/16 Nationals

The next International Cadet Nationals are being held 27th December 2015 - 4th January 2016 at Middle Harbour Yacht Club in Sydney.
Entries are not yet open, however there is preliminary information about the venue, accommodation, etc available on the clubs website.
Optimist News - 2016 Nationals Transport

Next year's Optimist Nationals
will be held at Georges River Sailing Club in NSW from 2nd - 9th January 2016.
The Preliminary NOR, along with other important information is now available here.

The TIODA Committee wishes to advise that it will not be organising a container to the regatta. Therefore we are starting to make some preliminary planning now. There is an option to charter an Opti for the regatta, which will cost you approx $590 inc GST. Alternatively there is the option to drive with your boat on the roof.
We will need to transport up to 3 RIBS as RIB charter will be nearly impossible. Some of the RIB's may be used for the Cadet Nationals (which are prior to the Optis) so assistance may only be required to tow the RIB back to Tassie. We also plan to take an Opti trailer that can hold up to 6 boats with an additional boat on the roof.
We plan to share the cost of transportation among all the sailors attending.
Therefore we would like to have an indication if you plan to drive and if you are able to tow a trailer one way or both ways. Can you also let us know if you will be attending the Cadet Nationals too. We would like to act sooner than later as booking on the Spirit of Tasmania may be difficult.
Some sailors may sail in the Sail Melbourne Regatta (Wednesday 9th - Sunday 13th December) and possibly compete in the Sail Sydney Regatta too (Thursday 17th December to Sunday 20th December).  Please also let us know if this is something you may wish to do.
