A new State and QLD Open Champion for 2015 was decided on over the weekend of 6th & 7th June.  Hamish Thorne, aged 12 from RQYS took the titles convincingly, winning 4 of the  8 race series.

The regatta was held over two days in the Mooloolah River due to a strong wind warning preventing racing in the open ocean. Winds were 15-20 knots at times over both days providing good hiking conditions and elongating the Open Fleet with the leading 8 boats pulling far ahead from the newer entrants promoted from the Green Fleet.

Start line positioning was tricky with wind shadow effects from Minyama Island, and combined with threading an upwind leg through anchored yachts made this a challenging and unusual State series.  However, consistent fast sailing from Hamish on day one overcame the early challenge from Aiden Gummow from Whitsunday Sailing Club.  After day one Hamish and Aiden had two wins each but Hamish came out on Sunday morning and delivered three consecutive first places  and hence the title.  The first female sailor, and overall runner up in the regatta Ashleigh Swadling from Southport Yacht Club finished off the series with a first place in the final race.  Zach Edwards from Maroochy Sailing Club, took third, Aiden Gummow fourth, and Hamish Swain from Whitsunday Sailing Club fifth.

Most improved Sailor award went to Grace Murphy from Southport Yacht Club.
