Docklands Yacht Club overlooks Victoria Harbour with sweeping views of the Melbourne City skyline and the ever changing Docklands precinct. From January 2016, sailing will take place from the 60 metre pontoon at our new premises - the Community Boating Hub, 912 Collins Street, adacent to the Library at Dock Square. Community Sailing days are normally the second and fourth Sunday of each month year round from 11am but are subject to change (check Calendar page for more details). Everyone is welcome. We supply the boats, lifejackets and instruction.
Great weekend at Hazelwood
Docklands Yacht Club sailors have again enjoyed the hospitality of Latrobe Valley Yacht Club at the annual Sauna Sail.
3 Liberties and 3 Hansa 303's make up Division 7 of this iconic event on Hazelwood Pondage.
Day 1 dawned overcast and foggy, but the day cleared to a stunning winter's day - however the wind failed to materialize.
Competitors were out on the water, however only one of our sailors - Louis Patterson in a 303 - made it around the course in the alloted time. There were similar results in the other divisions, with few competitors completing the course.
Sunday was a better day, wind-wise, and race officials made up for the lack of racing on day one by completing 4 races. It was Russell Phillips in the Liberty who jumped to the top of the leader board winning 3 of the 4 races, with Shauna Phillips taking out the last race of the day.
Monday's winds were lighter, but a further 3 races were completed for the fleet, with the honours shared between Russell, Christine Elliot in the 303 and DYC Secretary David Hales in his maiden race win.
We are grateful to LVYC for again hosting the Hansa Classes and look forward to supporting this event again next year.
