Short Course Season wraps up

by DYC

Shifting and variable northerlies of five to fifteen knots showed a new angle on Docklands' familiar Victoria Harbour in the final day of short course racing for the 2016/2017 season.

In the 303s, Christine Elliot's experience paid off, with a dominant performance crowning a successful year.

Honours in the rest of the fleet were much more evenly mixed, with tricky conditions offering opportunities for some and throwing obstacles in the way of others: often-close racing had boats separated by less than a metre at the finish. Six first places for Christine sees her runaway winner for club champion, with David Hayes as runner-up. Fantastic effort from David, who only started racing with us in April 2016!

In the Liberties, Russell was much more closely pressed, but was still able to hold off Shauna for six first places today for back-to-back Club championships.

DYC race committee would like to thank all the competitors who have made the DYC 2016/2017 short course race series the pleasure it's been to run, and hopes to be back next year bigger and better than ever.

Thanks to race officers David Staley and Louis Patterson for running our events this season.

For those who can't wait for summer for the next Short Course season, DYC sailors are off to Sauna Sail on the Queen's birthday long weekend and Albert Sailing Club's Winter Regatta on June 24th & 25th. See our website for more details if you'd like to join us.

Participants will gather for a presentation dinner in a couple of weeks.
