Docklands Yacht Club overlooks Victoria Harbour with sweeping views of the Melbourne City skyline and the ever changing Docklands precinct. From January 2016, sailing will take place from the 60 metre pontoon at our new premises - the Community Boating Hub, 912 Collins Street, adacent to the Library at Dock Square. Community Sailing days are normally the second and fourth Sunday of each month year round from 11am but are subject to change (check Calendar page for more details). Everyone is welcome. We supply the boats, lifejackets and instruction.
Rehab staff and patients at DYC
ON Wednesday 22nd Feb, Docklands Yacht Club welcomed staff and patients from the Royal Talbot Rehabilitation Centre.
Warm but gusty conditions greeted the sailors - most of whom were sailing on the water for the first time. Royal Talbot runs a very successful simulator program which the staff and patients were familiar with. So, whilst knowing the basics of how to control the boats, this was their first on-water experience.
Three of the Club's Hansa 303's were launched and the group quickly paired off and teams jumped into the boats and took to Victoria Harbour. Another two of the Club's Liberties were set up with full servo electric gear, which allows sailors with limited hand control to steer the boat and control the sails.
It was a very successful day for both groups and we look forward to further visits from the Talbot team.
You can read and see more about the day at the Travability website.
