Moreton Bay United have jumped into the top four with a thumping win over Brisbane Roar Youth on Saturday night.

With the contest moved from A.J. Kelly Park to the Jets’ home, the Young Roar were no match in a high-scoring contest which leaves them floundering in ninth spot.

Kyusub Bang scored a second-half brace for the Jets who now face a tantalising matchup with Olympic.

A punishing strike from Matthew Capelo opened the scoring on 20 minutes before Riley Campbell rounded Macklin Freke to double the advantage shortly after.

Freke unfortunately had a hand in the Jets’ third as the ball richoeted off the Young Roar stopper and into the net.

The Jets had a firm grasp on the contest at the break and the first of Bang’s two goals all but sealed the deal on 57 minutes.

Finn Beakhurst’s fourth goal of the season proved to be a mere consolation for the Roar as Bang’s 84th minute strike polished off a fine evening for the Jets.

Key Moments

7’ – CHANCE FOR ROAR – Daniel Driver’s slicing shot steers towards the left hand corner, yet Jordan Thurtell tips the ball outside the line for a corner.

20’ – GOAL FOR JETS – Matthew Capelo opens the scoring with a punishing strike from twenty yards out, with Macklin Freke unable to stop the ball.

24’ – CHANCE FOR JETS – Macklin Freke stands firm in the Roar goal as Donggyu Lee attempts to further the Jets’ lead with a soaring shot over the crossbar.

28’ – GOAL FOR JETS – Although Macklin Freke was quick off his line to clear the danger, Riley Campbell manages to extend the Jets’ lead as he curves around Freke, allowing a simple tap into the back of the net.

36’ – GOAL FOR JETS – With several Roar players positioned on the line to block Moreton Bay’s attack, the ball unluckily ricochets off of Macklin Freke, and could not be kept out of the net.

51’ – CHANCE FOR ROAR – Rahmat Akbari attempts to open the Roar’s scoring with a firm strike, but is unfortunately denied, with the ball landing straight into the hands of Jordan Thurtell.

57’ – GOAL FOR JETS – Kyusub Bang provides a clinical finish with an attack that just escapes Macklin Freke’s grasp.

72’ – GOAL FOR ROAR – Finn Beakhurst opens the Roar’s scoring with a powerful header that smashes into the back of the net, rendering Jordan Thurtell defenceless.

84’ – GOAL FOR JETS – Kyusub Bang secures the win with his second goal of the match, after he is the well-timed beneficiary of Michael Ricketts’ cross, which then rebounds off the post to land in corner of Roar’s net.
