Pride On The Line For Strikers

Greg King says his team’s NPL Queensland Finals Series destiny is in their own hands ahead of Sunday’s clash with Western Pride at Perry Park.

Strikers dropped to fifth place last night following Moreton Bay United’s win over Brisbane City, however three points against Pride will lift Strikers back into the top four.

However, King said his team won’t underestimate the second from bottom Pride this weekend, after falling to the Ipswich club 4-1 at Briggs Road earlier this year in one of the upsets of the NPL Queensland season.

“If I had to put it in the context of this season I would say it was probably the lowest point that we had”, said King.

He added: “After that result we went on a nine-match unbeaten run that really put us back in the position we are in now, where our destiny is in our own hands; but that was the lowest point in our season and I think we’ve got a bit of revenge we might like to get tomorrow.”

“We’ll go out there tomorrow with a point to prove.  We can’t get those three points back that we lost mid-season but if we can get three points, that will put us closer to making the finals this year”.

King hinted the team taking the field tomorrow will feature changes from the side that played out a bore draw with Palm Beach Sharks midweek due to injuries and with Strikers looking ahead to next weekend’s Canale Cup Final against Olympic FC.

“It really tests the depth of the squad and I’d like to think that all of the guys that are in the team can stand up and perform when required and that’s what it will be a case of tomorrow,” King said.

“It will be everyone making sure that they do their job, regardless of whether they’ve been playing every game of the season, or whether it’s their third game of first game, or whatever.”

“It’s about the squad in general and making sure that we get the result as a team,” he concluded.

Kick-off between Strikers and Pride is scheduled for 2PM tomorrow afternoon at Perry Park.
