The Gap Women have kept pace with runaway leaders Peninsula Power following a comprehensive 4-0 win over Eastern Suburbs Women on Saturday night.

In a crucial match that would help decide an outright second placed team, it was a fairly tight affair in the first half, with Ruth Blackburn finishing a nice through ball to see The Gap into halftime with the advantage.

The Gap would turn the heat up during the second half and dominate proceedings, with Bethany Ashton, Charli McLennan and Talitha Doro making sure the result was more than secure.

The win would see The Gap just three points behind Pen Power, as they travel during round nine to face a Sunshine Coast Fire team struggling to pick up points.

It also sees Easts fall five points behind The Gap, and they could even drop to fourth if Souths United win their game on Sunday.

They’ll have the unenviable task of hosting a rampant Peninsula Power next week.
