A late winner from substitute Simon Biel gave Brisbane City a 3-2 victory over Brisbane Roar Youth in a hugely entertaining encounter at Corporate Travel Management Stadium on Tuesday night.

Young Roar took a first half lead through Emlyn Wellsmore who headed home from a corner, before handing the initiative straight back to their hosts with an own goal moments later.

But the Roar bounced back, taking a 2-1 lead into halftime thanks to a well worked goal from Oliver Duncan in the 32nd minute.

Both sides created plenty of opportunities in the second half but it was City who struck first when Sam Sibatuara created space for himself in the penalty area, firing home inside the far post.

City continued to press hard for a winner, with Carter Glockner and substitute Simon Biel spurning a number of chances before Biel’s late intervention and composed finish gave City all three points.

City now face a short turn around ahead of a Friday night derby with Olympic at Goodwin Park, while the Young Roar travel to the Sunshine Coast on Sunday afternoon.
