Brisbane Roar Youth have announced the signing of Western Pride’s Hayden McHenery for the remainder of the PlayStation 4 National Premier Leagues season.

The 19-year-old midfielder joins Young Roar after impressing on trial in recent weeks and is the first of several anticipated signings for the club from the PlayStation 4 National Premier Leagues talent pool.

Young Roar coach Josh McCloughan said identifying and signing promising talents like McHenery is an important part of the club’s role in Queensland’s talented player pathway.

"(Hayden) came in and trialled and did really well and now he will be given an opportunity to develop and progress in our environment," McCloughan said of his latest acquisition.

McHenery joined Pride in 2015 and has amassed a total of 22 PlayStation 4 National Premier Leagues appearances for Pride in that time and scored his maiden competitive senior goal for the club last month against Moreton Bay United.

Pride coach Graham Harvey said McHenery’s move to Young Roar is an example of his club's role of identifying and promoting young talent as part of the PlayStation 4 National Premier Leagues.

“What we’re trying to do as a club is give these young boys an opportunity to showcase their talents,” Harvey explained.

“From my point of view, I’m willing to take a chance on young players and give them an opportunity to really develop and that’s what Hayden’s been able to do.”

McHenery was also part of the Queensland Academy of Sport side that won the PlayStation 4 NPL Queensland 2013 Under 18 Boys Grand Final before his progress was hindered by the onset of Osteitis Pubis.

Harvey said he was delighted that McHenery could bounce back from his injury setbacks with Pride.

“We fought a bit of a battle with him in pre-season to get him fit and dealing with the workload but as he’s progressed he has gotten some good minutes under his belt and really developed some consistency in his game.”

“He is another success story for us and hopefully someone else now steps up to takes his spot at Pride and makes the most of that opportunity to make the same sort of progression,” he concluded.
