A late goal to substitute Victoria Brebner saved a point for Peninsula Power Women in a 2-2 draw with Sunshine Coast Women at A.J.Kelly Park.

Little separated the sides for much of the contest – with no side able to hold a lead for longer than 7 minutes throughout.

Grace Duroux opened accounts midway through the first half for the hosts only for Kirsty Clifford to level terms for Fire just minutes later.

Fire seemed to have secured the points when Martha Bensted delivered a clever finish to put her side ahead for the first time, however Brebner’s late strike ensured the points were shared.

Key Moments

26’ – GOAL FOR POWER – A cross from Grace Curtis evades the clutches of Fire goalkeeper Katie Offer and Grace Duroux is on hand to open accounts

28’ – GOAL FOR FIRE – An instant reply from Fire as Kirsty Clifford delivers a strong finish from just inside the box to beat Tallulah Vearing at her near post

80’ – GOAL FOR FIRE – Martha Bensted delivers a pin-point lobbed finish from the corner of the box to catch out a flat-footed Tallulah Vearing

87’ – GOAL FOR POWER – Substitute Victoria Brebner turns and shoots from just outside the area placing the finish just beyond the reach of Katie Offer.

What They Said

“I would be a little over ambitious to say we should’ve won the game but I’m delighted by the performance. The girls showed a lot of heart for a really young team to keep battling until the equaliser. I’m delighted.” – Michael Cook, Peninsula Power FC Women coach

“We dominated possession for most of the game and created a couple of clear goal scoring opportunities and didn’t take them. Then, unfortunately, we get dogged by a pretty horrendous linesman’s decision and we get punished for it. That’s the way the game goes.” – Tom White, Sunshine Coast FC Women coach
