The Gap FC Women ramped up their pre-season with a win over Women’s Brisbane Premier League opposition on Thursday night with a brace for a returning Westfield W-League star.

Gators Too Strong For Lightning

LOGAN CITY | Returned Westfield W-League star Ruth Blackburn netted a brace as The Gap FC Women saw off Logan Lightning Women 3-1 at Cornubia Park.

Gators struck all three goals in the first half as the ramped up their pre-season in preparation for their PlayStation 4 NPL Women’s Queensland title defence.

Off-season recruit Eden Jones opened accounts early by tucking home a low cross from Greta Bodey.

Blackburn doubled the advantage just five minutes later when she headed home from a corner.

The midfielder, who spent the summer with Brisbane Roar in the Westfield W-League, then rounded out her haul on the counter attack late in the half with a composed left-footed finish.

Lightning pulled a goal back late in the contest when Katie Day nodded in from a corner kick.

Gators continue their pre-season against Sunshine Coast FC on Sunday as part of full slate of PlayStation 4 NPL Women’s Queensland fixtures at Dalton Park in Moreton Bay.
