Brisbane Strikers skipper Michael Angus will return for the club in PlayStation® 4 NPL Queensland 2016, it has been confirmed.

The 25-year-old midfielder has recommitted to the club for a seventh straight season after leading the team to their maiden PlayStation 4 NPL Queensland Grand Final appearance in 2015.

Angus was an ever present in the centre of Strikers’ formation last season – starting 23 PlayStation 4 NPL Queensland matches and earning recognition as the club’s Player of the Year.

Strikers coach Kevin A’herne-Evans said he had no hesitation retaining Angus' services and praised his leadership qualities after taking over the armband following a season-ending injury to Jonti Richter early in the campaign.

“We had a lot of trying and testing times last season and every time he went on the field he was one hundred percent focused and made sure the players stuck to the game plan,” A’herne-Evans explained.

“But it was not just what he delivered as a player performing on the pitch - his overall ability to lead the group was exceptional.  I’ll be excited to see how much he can take his game on again next year.”

A'herne-Evans explained that Angus’ contributions were that of a truly rounded midfielder and stressed his ability to add defensive muscle to Strikers’midfield.

“He was at the heart of everything, was involved in every moment of the game and was excellent at providing the good early ball to the front guys,” A’herne-Evans said.

“But what he doesn’t get anywhere near enough credit for is his defensive abilities.”

“You get players who can be dominant by being in the duel and being in the heart of everything physically and then you get your really intelligent defenders who defend by reading the play and, in that transitional moment, being able to capitalize on a numerical advantage.

“I thought Michael Angus was excellent for us in that department last season,” A’herne-Evans concluded.
