Palm Beach SC Women sharpshooter Deeanna Thompson is tipping an attacking spectacle for fans in Saturday night’s PlayStation® 4 NPL Queensland Women’s Grand Final.

Thompson hit 32 regular-season goals on her way to winning the Golden Boot before adding another sparkling hattrick in Sharks’ 3-1 Preliminary Semi-Final win over Sunshine Coast Women.

The lightning-quick forward predicts her prolific side will be on the front foot when they meet The Gap Women at Corporate Travel Management Stadium.

“There’s no use in the Grand Final holding back and just sitting defensively because that’s not how you are going to win the game,” Thompson said.

“We’ve got nothing to lose after losing the (Qualifying) Semi-Final (to The Gap). We’re going to do the best we can to prepare and come at them firing.”

Thompson’s exploits in front of goal this term have earned her a pre-season training stint with Brisbane Roar in the lead up to the new Westfield W-League season.

With no shortage of support in attack, the 21-year-old paid tribute to her teammates in helping Sharks gain a mental edge on opposition defences.

“It’s good for the team, and for other teams knowing we’ve got the top goalscorer, it creates a little bit of scare I suppose for them facing us,” she said.

“It’s not all my responsibility as well. It’s a lot of team effort, I just have to get on the end of them.”

Having shared one apiece in meetings this season, and only a single point separating the two teams in the final standings, Saturday’s match is expected to be another close contest.

Thompson is relishing the chance to take a penalty should spot-kicks be required to determine the championship.

“Absolutely. Wouldn’t miss out on the opportunity,” the Mullumbimby product said.

“It’s always a lot of pressure but a lot fun at the end of the day as well.”
