The NPLW took on more twists and turns as it roller-coastered its way into round six.

Rain again played a role in the fixtures with two games to be rescheduled, with The Gap momentarily sitting behind Souths United at the top of the table.

Roar stake their claim

On Friday night the Roar NTC visited Cornubia Park to take on Logan Lightning.  The young visitors were too good in the second half and were able to claim a convincing 0-5 victory.

Freier and Farmer helped themselves to braces whilst Logan debuted new recruit import Natalia Pinkney from Souths.   It's tough going for Logan at the moment but they remain in good spirits as they look to establish themselves in the competition.  For the Roar NTC, this result validates their position as a solid mid table side.

 

Gold Coast United FC | 4 – 4 | Mudgeeraba SC

All square in the Faye Rodd Cup

The most exciting game of the weekend was the Gold Coast derby as United hosted Mudgeeraba for the inaugural Faye Rodd Cup.  We mentioned a rollercoaster before, how about this for a ride?  The Wallabies led 0-1 in the first half before United equalised just on half time.  Mudgeeraba then bounced to a 1-3 lead before United clawed their way back to take a 4-3 lead.

However, with a couple of minutes to go, Mudgeeraba equalised to make it 4-4.  Gold Coast scored again in injury time only to have it flagged for offside.  High drama as both sides walked off with a point.  What an amazing first derby and what a stunning turnaround for Mudgeeraba, who were beaten 17-0 by The Gap in round one but now find themselves undefeated in their last two games.

Mustangs outrun the Thunder

Mitchelton hosted SWQ Thunder in a match that one would have expected to be an easy win for the home team.  It certainly looked the case when Katie McDonald opened the scoring in just the third minute.  However, Louise Rolfe equalised in the tenth minute which then set up an arm wrestle.

It wasn't until the 62nd minute that the Mustangs were able to break the resolve of the visitors.  Another goal in quick succession sealed the contest and the Thunder left with a 3-1 loss.  To date, they are the only side without any points.  Despite this, there were signs of improvement.  The result keeps Mitchie in the top four hunt.

The Jasymn Perin Show

With the Sunshine Coast Wanderers and Lions FC, and Capalaba and The Gap having their matches postponed due to soggy pitches, the remaining match on Saturday was the Jazmyn Perin show at Heath Park. The Moreton Bay striker scored all the goals in a 0-4 victory. Perin was in the right places at the right times as she scored a variety of goals, including profiting from a rebound off the post – a sign of a good goal-poacher.

The result is a good comeback for the Jets as they recover from last week's derby defeat. For Easts, the only joy would have been in welcoming some former teammates back to the club.  A tough night for the Tigers.

 

Souths United | 4 – 0 | Western Pride FC

Souths rebound to pounce against Pride

The Sunday game was our livestream fixture between Souths United and Western Pride.  An entertaining match showed that despite the scoreline, the Pride are a much improved outfit from last season.  Souths had to be at their home form best to get around and through the Pride's defence and were eager following their round five 2-0 loss to The Gap.  Sofie Persson made her debut for United and got through the first 45.

In the second half the introduction of Amy Chapman really changed the game.  Chapman and her link up play with Teonie Rushton were too much for the Ipswich side to handle and the hosts ran away with the game racking up a 4-0 win.  Souths, by virtue of playing all of their matches, sit on top of the table.

Of course, Lions and The Gap can join them when they play their rescheduled matches against Sunshine Coast Wanderers and Capalaba respectively.
