It was hard-fought, but Gold Coast City have recorded just their fourth victory of the season with a narrow win over Sunshine Coast FC.

Neither side appear destined to feature in the finals, but City will take pride out of a tight 1-0 win that sees them jump clear of the bottom three sides.

Neither side was able to create many meaningful chances in the first half with Teleya Reynolds’ early chance the closest either side came to opening the scoring.

GCC then had a number of chances in quick succession, but it wasn’t until the 60th minute when they broke the deadlock through Briellyn Bond, who turned her opponent before sublimely finishing into the bottom corner.

Both sides had quality chances in the final half hour with Lisa Van Hooijdonk desperately unlucky to not find the net following two one-on-one opportunities in the final stages.

It was to be though as the Fire remain in tenth spot, hovering just three points above bottom-placed Western Pride.

City now hit the road to face UQ while the Fire have the week off before facing Souths United on home turf.
