On Friday night, newly promoted Corio SC got its Division 1 campaign off to the best start possible, defeating Surf Coast FC 1-2 at Banyul Warri Reserve with Petar Bozic and Aleksander Vuksa scoring both of Corio’s goals. Surf Coast’s lone scorer was not submitted by the club.

Barwon Heads SC were defeated by Lara United 1-2 at Barwon Heads Village Park. Connor McGrath and Elijah Kemerer both scored for Lara. Steven Penman was the scorer of the only Barwon Heads goal.

Geelong Rangers took on Breakwater Eagles in the battle of the traditional ‘Sunday League’ powerhouses at White Eagle House. In the end, Rangers easily defeated the hosts 4-1, with Troy Hardy, Nicholas Hogan and Scott Davison all contributing to their team with goals with Davison scoring a double. Jack Bennet scored Breakwater’s only goal for the game.

Across town over at Deakin University’s Waurn Ponds campus, Barwon SC took on the Deakin Ducks in a replay of their State League 5 battle just last week. The final score was 2-4 Barwon’s way, with Beng Kai So, Riley Smith, Cooper Mccormack and Oliver Hunniford scoring Barwon’s four goals.

In the other match at the splendid new Drysdale Sporting Precinct, Drysdale SC defeated Surfside Waves SC 2-1 to wrap up the opening round’s action. An own goal provided Drsydale with the equalizer after an Adrian Vodopic goal had given the visitors the lead. In the end it was a case of Wade Lansbury getting on the scoresheet in his first competitive game for Drysdale that gave the home side the valuable win on an historic occasion for the Bellarine club.
