NEWS: GRFC (MEN’S LEAGUE) – GRAND FINAL PREVIEW

EVEN though Geelong Rangers have been involved in the last three consecutive Grand Finals, it’s the Surfside Waves who will enter Sunday’s GRFC Men’s Division One Grand Final the raging favourites, having won two and drawing one of their three league clashes with the Dark Blues in 2015...

Thanks to a Stephen McGain double, the Waves stole all three competition points from the Rangers in their Round 7 clash at Myers Reserve, eventually running out 4-2 winners.

In their Round 14 return clash at Shell Road Reserve, the Ocean Grove outfit demolished the Rangers 4-0, with McGain once again hitting the back of the net for the Waves, along with Jack Pedler, Adrian Bond and Stuart Mandley.

The third and final league encounter between the two, a catch-up Round fixture at Myers Reserve in early July, ended in a scoreless draw.

Rangers’ captain Brian Conn played his 500th game in last week’s semi final triumph over Drysdale SC and - along with fellow seasoned campaigners, Scott Davison and Troy Hardy - will be keen to erase the disappointment of last year’s 0-1 Grand Final loss to the Deakin Ducks.

A year earlier, Rangers defeated the same opponents 1-0 to be crowned the 2013 GRFC Division One Premiers.

Surfside, on the other hand, will look to first year captain Adrian Bond, prolific scorer Jack Pedler and the ever reliable Stu Handley to commandeer the Waves to Premiership glory.

To be staged on the main pitch at Stead Park, Sunday’s Grand Final showdown will kick off at 3:10pm.

The Division Two Grand Final, meanwhile, will be contested by Lara SC and Bellarine Sharks, who finished third and fourth respectively in the final standings. It will be staged on Pitch 1 as a curtain raiser to the Men’s Division One clash and will kick off at 12:30pm.

The Division Three Final between newly crowned League Champions Corio Bay Blue and Deakin Ducks Green will kick off at 1:10pm on Pitch 2 at Stead Park.
