The Weekly Sting #9

Men

Magic v German Arms 76ers. An important round across the competition this week with the league leading Mount Barker Magic taking on German Arms in what could prove to be an early Grand Final match up. Magic wasted little time in taking control of the game, jumping to a 20-7 lead against the shell-shocked 76ers. Minus strongman Andrew Mason, it was Matt Johns who took control of the game early for the Magic dominating on the boards. German Arms looked to be out of touch and frustrated with the officiating going into halftime with multiple players in foul trouble. The second half was a complete role reversal with Arms being the aggressor and Sam Scott coming up big with 9 final quarter points. The game went right down to the final second with Magic just getting out of jail by a single basket.
Leading Scorers: Magic 48 (M. Johns 20, J. Warhurst 15) defeated German Arms 76ers 46 (S. Scott 15, S. Rattus 14)

Rimshots v Onka Piranhas. Piranhas scored a vital against Rimshots, keeping their finals chances alive just a little bit longer. despite a late charge by Rimshots, the Maroons did just enough to hang on with Jack Barnett (18 pts) doing his bit to get his team up. Rohan Weckert (17 pts) was the leading light for Rimshots, in a game that really should have went the black’s way. If Piranhas are going to have a real shot in the finals, they need Devon McGee back in uniform desperately.
Onka Piranhas 41 (J. Barnett 18, K. Bagley 6) defeated Rimshots 40 (R. Weckert 17, B. Vincent 10)

Zodiacs 1 v Zodiacs 3. Zodiacs 1 were pushed by the energetic Zodiacs 3, with the kids taking the first half honours leading by a single point 21-20. Zodiacs 1, decided to up their defensive pressure in the second half attempting to slow down the fastbreaking youngsters. Experienced campaigner Wes Roach, nailed some back breaking perimeter shots that proved crucial in the result. Zodiacs 1had just enough in the tank to get the job done, posting a 47-40 win. Scott Baxter (14 pts) and Joel Goodenough (11 pts) were too strong for the young Golds, who fought hard but stumbled at the final hurdle. Seb Bald (14 pts) was the best for Zodiacs 3, along with Alex Barnett and Jack Trehearne who both scored 6 pts each.
Leading Scorers: Zodiacs 1 47 (S, Baxter 16, J. Goodenough 7) defeated Zodiacs 3 40 (S. Bald 14, A. Barnett 6, J. Trehearne 6)
