Team Fiji Womens Rugby Qualifies For Olympics
Team Fiji Women's Rugby have qualified for the Rio Olympics after an emphatic performance thrashing Samoa 55-0 in the finals of the Oceania 7s in New Zealand.
"We have been working very hard, we couldn't wait for this moment and nothing was going to stop us from coming here and doing our job," Fiji's Rebecca Tavo, a former captain of Australia's women's side told Reuters.
"It means so much for Fiji. We have got some awesome girls waiting back home to get on this team."
Fiji Rugby Union board chairman Francis Kean confirmed that the Telecom Fijiana team would not be treated any different from the Vodafone 7s team on the road to Rio.
"The girls have done the nation proud for their fine display of simple basic sevens rugby, coming through undefeated in this two-day Olympic qualifying process.
"Well done to the team officials, Coach Iliesa Tanivula, Women's Coaching Director Chris Cracknell and Ben Ryan for his expert input into the team's preparations," Mr Kean said.
Rusila Nagasau scored four tries in a 55-0 rout over Samoa in the final.
