Physical Literacy - what does this mean?

Physical Literacy is a relatively new term that is important in the development of healthy young people and adults alike.

Physical Literacy encompasses the "motivation, confidence, physical competence, knowledge and understanding required by participants that allows them to value and take responsibility for engaging in physical sport and activity for life (Margaret Whitehead, 2013)

Accessible via the link below or attached as a PDF is the Sport NZ's Physical Literacy Approach document which is worth a read as a form of guidance for quality physical activity and sport experiences.

Sport NZ's Physical Literacy Approach is relevant across all ages, recognising and responding to the needs of a participant as they change throughout life.

Babies, children, young people, adults and seniors can all be participating in physical activity and sport in a variety of ways and in a variety of places.  Their needs will vary and this document provides a starting point for considering those needs.

Comment Guidelines: The SportsTG Network is made up of players, families and passionate sports followers like you who have a strong opinion about sport. That's great - we want you to have your say and share your thoughts with the world. However, we have a few rules that you must follow to keep it fun for all. Please don't be rude, abusive, swear or vilify others. Apart from some pretty serious sport sanctions, we also can ban you and report you if things get out of hand. So play fair and have fun, and thanks for your contribution.
