Umpire Holiday Programme - general info

MAKE THE MOST OF YOUR HOLIDAY BREAK TO BECOME A MORE CONFIDENT UMPIRE!

Netball Wellington Centre offer umpire holiday programmes at the following times throughout the year:

April:  First week of the holidays.  Full day from 9.30am to 3pm.  Focus on theory including rule understanding and discussion as well as practical activities including whistle-blowing, scenarios and best-practice positioning on court.

July: Please note, due to a clash with hosting the Netball NZ U19 Age Group Championships at ASB Sports Centre in the first week of the holidays we will not be able to run a July Umpire Holiday Programme in 2017. 
Normally scheduled first week of the holidays.  Full day from 9.30am to 3pm.  Focus on theory including rule understanding and discussion as well as practical activities including whistle-blowing, scenarios and best-practice positioning on court.  Will return in 2018.

Attendees
All girls & boys in Years 8-13 welcome to attend.
A good opportunity for first-timers to gain a gentle introduction to rules and their application while those familiar with umpiring get the chance to further their knowledge and skills.  
Format may vary depending on number of participants registered.

Tutors
Our own Netball Wellington Centre Staff - General Manager Sue Geale (NZ Badge) and Development Coordinator John Neho (Centre Badge) will guide attendees through the programme and provide ongoing support where required.

Format:
Morning sessions focus on theory moving into practical in the afternoon.

Topics likely include:

  • Umpiring pathways & frame/work
  • Introduction to Umpiring
  • The rules explained
  • Conduct of the game
  • Dual control umpiring and hand signals
  • Game & Whistle protocol
  • Minor/major infringement identification
  • Position, vision and timing
  • Revision of the NNZ, Centre Test papers

What to bring:

  • Hair tie to keep direction of pass
  • Hand Held Finger Whistle (can purchase for $10.00 at the course)
  • Appropriate sports gear to umpire and play netball in
  • Pen
  • Lunch and drink bottle

Cost:
$20 per person

How to Register
Registrations are accepted via our online registration form.
Registrations open at least one month ahead of the start of our programmes.
Those on our Junior Development (Year 1-8), Year9+ mail list or Umpire Development mail list will be advised via email once registrations open otherwise we promote via our website (www.netballwellington.co.nz) or please "Like" us on Facebook to stay up to date - https://www.facebook.com/netballwellingtoncentre/

Spaces are limited to ensure quality tutoring - registrations close the week prior to the start of the programme or once spaces are full.  A waiting list may be created as necessary.
