West Adelaide:
Kate Hilton was a standout best on ground for West Adelaide in their Semi last week. While she has performed well throughout the season, last week was a step above. She stood up tall and played hard, fair impressive footy across the half back line. If Hilton sets the tone again this week, be it up front or down back, she will no doubt demand attention from Adelaide Uni.
Adelaide Uni:
Kelly Barltrop exploded out of the gates at the start of the season. She kicked 25 goals in her first 5 games of footy before being struck down by injury and missing the following 8 games. Upon return she seemed a bit proppy and not quite herself however over the last 2 to 3 games she has really started to turn it on, laying tackles and kicking goals from all over the ground, reminding us why she had heads turning early in the season. If Barltrop can keep building on her form this week, she may be the key to closing the gap Uni haven’t been able to overcome all year.
The Match
These two have been building to this faceoff all year. Both teams have performed strongly across the season with West Adelaide deservedly finishing one rung above Uni on the ladder. Westies have taken the bacon in all three encounters, by 4, 6 and 9 points respectively. Oddly enough the 9 point match was probably Uni’s best chance, bad kicking saw them cap off the day with 2.14 to their name. Last week both teams played well, with Westies showing they can play hard footy against the Roos, and Uni moving the ball really well against the Maggies. You can’t go past Westies as the favourites, as they’ve shown they know how to get the job done, but this will be Div. 1 footy at its finest and could very well come down to the last kick of the day.
