ROUND 6 PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Gaining confidence from a recent international tour of Japan with the Australian Gliders, Georgia Munro-Cook has owned the paint in two Round 6 wins for the Sydney Metro Blues to claim the Player of the Week honours.

Needing a couple of victories over the Kilsyth Cobras to keep a solid footing in the top four, the Blues succeeded in two narrow contests while Munro-Cook averaged 27 points, 17.5 rebounds and three assists.

She was impactful at the defensive end of the floor as well, tallying 1.5 steals and 1.5 blocks across the two games while controlling the tempo from her work on the glass.

In their first meeting, Munro-Cook top-scored with 22 points on 10-25 shooting while also pulling down almost half of the Blues’ rebounds with 16.

Sydney Metro set up their 13-point victory across the second and third quarters as they out-scored Kilsyth 24-13 and Munro-Cook had 16 points during that period.

That included all eight of her team’s points in the third term while Munro-Cook’s defence was also crucial, restricting the Cobras to 1-8 shooting in the paint for the quarter.

Her three offensive boards helped the Blues to a 10-1 advantage in second chance points while she also notched two steals and a block in a complete performance.

Munro-Cook was on fire again the following day, scoring 11 points in the opening quarter to gain a 13-3 lead at the first change over the Cobras.

The home side were desperate to exact revenge from the night before though and slowly reeled Sydney Metro in despite a double-double from Munro-Cook to three-quarter time with 26 points and ten rebounds.

Kilsyth moved in front by five at the last change and still held a two-point edge with 3:30 remaining before Munro-Cook re-found her touch.

She went on to score the last six points of the game for the Blues, including the game-winner with 43 seconds on the clock and when Teisha Shadwell missed a potential game-tying free-throw, Munro-Cook (32 points, two assists, two blocks) secured her 19th rebound for the game to claim a 51-50 victory.

Georgia Munro-Cook Round 6 Stats: 27 points on 25-49 (51%) shooting, 17.5 rebounds (4.5 offensive), three assists, 1.5 steals and 1.5 blocks per game.
