WEST COAST HAWKS
Thankyou to Wirrulla Football and Netball Clubs, our Grand final host
20 August 2018
Wirrulla v Elliston
The Bombers have once again dominated the reserves the season, but did drop the last game of the year to the fast finishing Roosters, and the Roosters in doing so, relegated the Hawks to third place. Wirrulla like Elliston have all their sides in the final three so both should feel very pleased with where they are at, but business still to be done.
In recent years the Bombers have enjoyed great success in the B Grade competition, and this day have the benefit of no A Grade playing, do they use the top 15 rule to their benefit, or will the A Grade put these fellas on ice? The Roosters have no such decisions, they play every grade, so just like a normal club game!
Big Guns at Wirrulla have been great players for many years, Craig Johnson is irresistible up forward, can he be held? Mark Binder, Shane Pittaway, Tyron Fox are A Grade regulars of the past and keys in their later years. Younger speed includes Kieron Patterson, Cam Parker and Jaiden Greenfield. Generally the Bombers play a brand of football that stand the test of finals, no nonsense over use of the football, just work hard, move the ball quickly and use their marking targets forward.
Elliston always an enigma, especially in the B Grade. Have turned 63 players through this grade in 2018, so never really get set in to a particular pattern of play. They aligned themselves into an effective unit, especially through the second half of the year, and will compete strongly here. Clint Gardiner, Jordan Little, Luke Mc Lachlan all consistent players, and also that they are the only three who have played double digit games (10+), Will the grand old warrior Steve Agars suit up? Ross Grant, Andrew Starke and Jonas Henning all having good years.
Wirrulla will have the benefit of no A Grade and also finals experience to assist, so will start a favourite to avenge the R15 loss, but that will be fresh in everyone’s minds!
