Winter junior domestic (EDJBA) update

Update as at 22nd April 2020

The EDJBA (Eastern Districts Junior Basketball Association) had advised that the Winter season start date had been delayed until the 2nd May. The latest communication from Basketball Victoria is that all basketball is now suspended until 31st May.

In accordance with this, the EDJBA Committee have now advised that the Winter domestic competition may resume on 13th June (though they will consider an earlier date if things change). The EDJBA Committee want the season to resume as soon as practically possible and at this stage there is no indication that the Winter season will be cancelled entirely.

Although the teams for the domestic season have been substantially formed, we will be waiting until we have a firm start date before publishing them.

In the meantime, check the twice weekly workouts with Manny Hendrix (our Director of Basketball Programs) on Collingwood All Stars Instagram Live. These happen every Tuesday and Thursday at 6.00pm. Manny runs fitness or skills drills to help players be ready to play when basketball starts up again, so encourage your daughter / son to set aside these times each week and join in.

And check our Facebook and Instagram for other opportunities to improve skills, and for further updates about the club. Like us on Facebook www.facebook.com/CASBasketball and on Instagram @collingwoodallstars to keep up to date.

We understand that this is a difficult time for everyone and we will keep you informed of updates as they occur.

Stay safe.

Update as at 20th March 2020

EDJBA Competition

Our domestic competition is within the Eastern District Junior Basketball Association (EDJBA) and they have published the following information:

  • At this stage the Winter 2020 season will take place, subject to the lifting of suspensions of play by Basketball Victoria and suitable risk management strategies being in place.
  • Given that the suspension of play will last until at least mid-April, the start of the Winter season has been delayed by 2 weeks and Round 1 is now hoped to be played on 2 May (the week previously allocated for Round 2). The Winter season will be shortened by 1 round to 14 rounds as a result.
  • Should Basketball Victoria extend their suspension, or the state government extends the state of emergency, then the Committee will review this and alter the current plan as necessary.
  • The Committee has also determined that as soon as there is an opportunity for competition to resume, it will do so regardless of the timing – at this stage there is no indications that the Winter season will be cancelled entirely.

Teams

The domestic composition subcommittees are currently working on organising teams and these will be published by the end of the school holidays. They will first be published on this club website and then emailed to families.

Introductory Training Session

We usually run an introductory training session for new players before we finalise teams. Unfortunately we won’t be able to run this session this season. If you have any feedback you would like to provide about new players (eg previous experience (basketball and other sports), skill level, confidence) please email juniordomestic@collingwoodbasketball.com.au.

Training & Matches

Training will commence in the week beginning 27th April if the 2nd May start goes ahead. Girls training will be on Monday nights and boys training will mostly be on Thursday nights. Training times and venues have not yet been set but will be published on the club website once organised.

Fixtures for the first round will be published on the EDJBA website about a week before the matches.

Domestic Singlets and Shorts

Players will need to have a domestic singlet and domestic shorts. Singlets and shorts will be on sale after the teams have been announced and prior to the first round. Details will be advised closer to the time.

Uniform costs are: Singlet & shorts $95, Shorts only $45, Singlet only $55. EFTPOS is preferred.

Holiday Programs

Unfortunately we have had to cancel our holiday programs in the March / April holidays.
