Michael Battle appointed All Stars Big V Men’s Coach

The Collingwood All Stars are pleased to announce the appointment of Michael Battle as Head Coach of the Collingwood All Stars Big V Men’s team in 2019.

Michael’s coaching experience spans over 20 years and he is a great disciple of the game he dearly loves.

Michael began coaching juniors at the Knox Raiders before moving on to the Dandenong Rangers and Nunawading Spectres, where he coached some of Victoria’s best performing junior teams.

His senior coaching experience includes Head Coach of the Nunawading Spectres Big V Youth Championship Men’s team and assistant roles at the Blackburn Vikings (Big V Division 1 Men), Pakenham Warriors (Big V Division 2 Men) and Werribee Devils (Big V State Championship Men). In addition to club positions Michael has been a selector and team manager with the Vic Metro Under 18 team.

Michael says he is both delighted and excited to be joining the All Stars.

“I feel like my ideas align nicely with the All Stars,” says Michael. “I am keen to be part of the All Stars’ community engagement and spirit. I see the role as providing a platform for growth and putting people in a position to do something great and set them on a course to let them achieve. I see the Big V teams as the tip of the iceberg for the Association – they are an expression of who we are.”

Amongst Michael’s key attributes are his passion for the game, thorough attention to detail and excellent communication skills. He is a dedicated, enthusiastic and modern coach who will make a positive impact across the entire Club.

Michael replaces Gani Sakiri as Head Coach of the Big V Men’s team, who chose not to continue in the position in order to devote more time to his role as the All Stars’ Head of Coaching. Gani has been a driving force behind the establishment of the Big V programme at Collingwood and is to be congratulated on his fine efforts. Initially as an MMBL coach, Gani oversaw the Men’s team for its first four years including winning the Division 2 championship and being awarded Coach of the Year in 2017. The Club thanks Gani for his efforts as the Men’s coach and looks forward to his continued leadership as Head of Coaching.
