INVITATION TO ATTEND PUBLIC MEETING

Senior Leagues Competitions Forum
25th July, 10am till 12pm
Figtree Conference Centre, 5 Figtree Drive, Sydney Olympic Park

Basketball NSW will be hosting a Senior Leagues Competitions Forum on the 25th of July 2015, we are now calling for members from the Basketball NSW community to register their interest in attending the meeting regarding the Waratah League.

This and future forums will assist Basketball NSW is preparing a long-term strategic plan to improve and grow the Waratah League in general.
Agenda
Session 1 - Panel discussion on "fast tracking" athletes

There are currently 214 athletes aged between 14-17 years of age who are playing in the Molten Waratah League.

Do we collectively (administrators, coaches alike) have a higher duty of care when it comes to allowing minors to play at this level of competition?

Panel members:
• Patrick Hunt: President of the FIBA World Association for Basketball Coaches
• Lorraine Landon: Former Chair of the FIBA Women's Commission and General Manager of National Teams and Competitions for Basketball Australia
• Peter Longergan: Director of Coaching, Australian College of Sport / Basketball Program
• Plus an Exercise Physiologist (Name to be confirmed)

Session 2 - Panel discussion on "workload of athletes”

There are currently 95 athletes in the Molten Waratah League who are playing in more than one division of the league, and in many cases these same athletes are also playing at a junior representative basketball level.

How can we all work together to ensure that our athletes aren't over committing and burning out?
• Patrick Hunt: President of the FIBA World Association for Basketball Coaches
• Lorraine Landon: Former Chair of the FIBA Women's Commission and General Manager of National Teams and Competitions for Basketball Australia
• Peter Longergan: Director of Coaching, Australian College of Sport / Basketball Program

Session 3 - Competition Format
In this session we will discuss the competition formats in general and what best suits each division, we know it's not a one size fits all model.

• Debbie Keirs: Senior Manager Technical & Events
