Canberra Nationals v Hornsby Spiders Women Semi Final

A re-tooled Canberra side will be looking to make a big splash in this seasons final series, featuring a host of new players.  Hornsby, post season regulars would be worthy adversaries.  In a tight start to the match, points were hard to come by, with both teams strong on the defensive end.  At the first break it was Hornsby by 2.

The game opened up a little in the second, with the nerves settled and with both teams getting into their rhythm.  The Nationals looked to their studs in Michelle Cosier and Kellie Abrams to lift their side, but led superbly by guard Danielle Daoud, the Spiders took a surprising lead into half time by 2.

Canberra finally awoke from their slumber in the third quarter, turning up the defensive pressure on the Spiders to a point where they were struggling to even get shots off.  Hornsby’s first points of the half weren’t made until 2 minutes to go and totalled only 4 points for the quarter.  Red hot favourites Canberra were back in command, leading by 9 at the last change.

The Nationals continued to play some great basketball in the last, out hustling and out playing the Spiders.  With the aforementioned Abrams and Cosier in top gear and solid contributions for Teagan Burke, Canberra ran out 13 point victors over a gallant Hornsby side.
