Newcastle Basketball Association to Host 2010 WL & SBL Finals Weekend

Basketball NSW is proud to announce that the Newcastle Basketball Association has been selected as this year's host of the 2010 Waratah League and NSW State League finals on the weekend of 14th - 15th of August.

Newcastle Basketball General Manager Ivan Spyrdz was delighted with the announcement.

“It’s a great honour to be offered the hosting rights for the Waratah and State League Finals weekend,” said Spyrdz. “It adds another page to the proud history of Newcastle Basketball, and provides the local basketball community a great opportunity to watch the top teams from all over NSW play in our City.”

The weekend sees the conclusion of the season, with semi-finals on the Saturday and the grand finals on Sunday. The grades include men and women grades of Waratah ABL, State League and Youth League.

 The Waratah League showcases the highest Association competition in NSW.  This comprises of teams from Maitland to the Sydney Metropolitan Area to Canberra.  With names such as Ben Arkell, Kellie Abrams, Sally Potocki, Butch Hays, Graeme Dann, Jason Cadee, Annie La Fleur, Josh Morgane, Jamie Kennedy, Nikki Graham, Katie Ezbery the action will be none stop.

The State League, the third-tier competition, features a diverse range of both city and country teams from Coffs Harbour to Penrith and Manly to Wagga Wagga, which is often a stepping stone to the Waratah League and beyond. The youth league grade is comprised of the states best young talent under the age of 22.
