Peel Football and Netball League fans will get to enjoy their preliminary and grand finals on a Saturday this year, after the league shifted the date due to a clash with the WAFL’s schedule.
With Peel Thunder a possibility to feature in the state league’s premiership game, the PFNL made the decision to move to a Saturday slot to allow local fans to attend both games.
“It was really a common sense decision for us,” PFNL general manager Geoff Hiller said.
“It allows us to get the maximum number of people into our finals and then the local Thunder supporters can still watch their side the next day if they make it in.
“It’s two bites at the cherry for people.”
Hiller said the league was excited at the prospect of a Saturday grand final, and would gauge it’s success for future season.
“We’ll certainly give consideration to Saturday grand finals in the coming seasons if this one is a success,” he said.
The league will also consider spacing its qualifying and semi final games across two days, to ease the strain on volunteers.
The 2017 preliminary finals will follow usual time slots, while grand final day will kick off with the colts playing at 9.45am, followed by the reserves at 12.10pm and the league at 2.30pm.
The preliminary final will be held on Saturday, September 16 with the grand finals to follow on Saturday, September 23.
