Having moved to Canberra, where AFL ACT runs the Women's competition since 2010, we can see the change has been beneficial to all involved. People can focus on their clubs instead of the administration of the league. Home games are scheduled incojunction for those clubs aligned to men's football clubs on the same ground.
The other benefit is that currently the administration of our league has historically been done by a small select group of volunteers as their role of the executive committee. The executive committee does many hours of voluntary work per week. Our volunteers have been long-serving and currently there is no succession plan due to the lack of people nominating themselves for a role. In contrast a centrally-run league can be done by professional administrators who are paid to do it on a full-time basis.
