DISTRICT LEAGUE - R18 WRAP

WGC Cranes District League - Rd 18 Wrap

Picton Rangers have stretched their lead at the top of the table on the weekend to ten points after a comfortable three goals to nil victory over UOW FC at Hume Oval on Saturday and a one nil win over Berkeley Sports on Tueaday night.

Goals from Delfeayo Francis, Daniel Goodhew and Key Mitchell ensured the Rangers on Saturday and a goal to Daniel Goodhew on Tuesday night maintained their 16 game unbeaten streak and they could be well out of sight given their buffer and a game in hand of their nearest rivals.

With the chase for the title looking more like a one horse race as each round passes by, the focus could be on who finishes second and fills the other four Final Series places with only three points seperating the next seven points in the chasing pack.

Fernhill leap frog five teams and move to second following their four-two win over Balgownie Rangers on Tuesday night with goals to Chris Hobbs (29', 40') and Marc Sergi (75') and Hiro Kobayashi (85'). That followed their win over Wests Illawarra by two goals to nil at Ray Robinson Field on Saturday. The Foxes led one nil at the interval courtesy of a Masa Wada 12th minute goal with Hiro Kobayashi find the back of the net just after the hour mark to seal the three points.

Corrimal Rangers (31pts) are in third position but they slipped up on Saturday when they travelled to Rex Jackson Oval (never an easy trip) to take on Helensburgh Thistle and were beaten by a solitary Andrew Paine 19' goal. It was a profitable weekend for the Burgh who were able to pick up another three points on Sunday when they travelled south to King Mickey Park and claimed victory on the back of a 52nd minute Luke Wyatt goal in the one-nil win.

The Burgh(29) moved up to seventh on the back of these six points and this surge should give them the momentum to push forward given that they have a strong side on paper with the likes of Paine, Monty Pfrengle and Andrew Keep in the side.

Thirroul FC (30) hold down fourth position but they slipped up on Saturday after dropping two valuable points in a nil all draw with Kiama Quarriers at Kiama Leisure Centre.

Despite their loss on Sunday, Warilla Wanderers(29) are in fifth spot on the table as a result of their resounding six goals to nil victory at home over bottom placed Coniston FC on Saturday. Stewart Robertson was the star of the show with a fine hat-trick (25' 28' 68') and was ably supported with a double from substitute Tristan McIntosh(80'90') with Jeremy Lopez also getting on the scoresheet with his 66th minute effort.

Berkeley Sports (30) drop to sixth position after dropping two points in a nil-all draw with Balgownie Rangers at Judy Masters Oval and lossing to Picton on Tuesday night.

Oak Flats Falcons (28) are on the fringe of the 'five' after coming out on top in a five goal thriller against Kemblawarra at Keith Bond Oval.

Josh De Gouveia (2) & Jason Murdzevski scored for the victors whilst Okan Turkman and Damian Jorge responded for the vistors.
