F-LEAGUE (NATIONAL FUTSAL LEAGUE)

The F-League (National Futsal League) comes to Wollongong for the first time with Sydney based team East Coast Heat taking on Boomerangs (ACT) in both the Men’s and Women’s competitions.

The F-League is a relatively young competition only a few years old and yet it is growing each year in teams and popularity. With the winners offered a place at the lucrative AFC Club Champions tournament, Australia’s finest futsal players apply their trade in this competition.

East Coast Heat (Men’s) have a number of current and ex-futsalroo players in their squad who will be looking to better their second place and runner up finish in last year’s competition. The Heat have won 2 and lost 2 going into this match and sit mid table despite having several games in hand. Boomerangs on the other hand are also mid table with and 2 and 1 record but boast one of the best defensive records in the league. East Coast have one of the most formidable line ups and have proven they can score frequently so this match promises to be intriguing.

In the Women’s competition, neither side has played many games and given this is the first year East Coast Heat have fielded a women’s team, this will be the first meeting between these two sides who are both keen to start the season well and not give the rest of the teams an early break.

What makes these games even more interesting is that the South Coast Taipans Futsal Club won the Super League Competition last year and is likely to be promoted to the top Premier Futsal Competition this year. Four of their players (all locals) are likely to feature for East Coast Heat at some point during these games with young 17 year old Matthew Mazevski in his second year at the Heat and Kya Stewart (15), Danika Matos (15) and Abigail Jordan (16) all in the Women’s team.

Futsal is becoming increasingly popular amongst budding footballers and this is a great opportunity to see the best in action.

The Women’s kick off at 12.00pm with the Men kicking off at 1.45pm @ University of Wollongong Sports Hub.

Entry is free..
