Match of the Week

Berkeley Sports 6 – 3 Wests Illawarra

Berkeley Sports defeated Wests Illawarra in a nine goal bonanza at Berkeley Sports Ground on Saturday. Berkeley now have the opportunity to move as high as 2nd on the ladder should they win their two games in hand.

Wests were off to a disastrous start when in the 17th minute defender Joshua Nichols unfortunately put the ball into his own net and afforded Berkeley a 1-0 lead. Angelo Hajittofi gave Sports a valuable two goal cushion in the 29th minute; the score remained 2-0 at the break.

The second half scoring streak was kicked off in the 50th minute when Andrew Breslin put Wests on the scoresheet. Six minutes later Wests found an equaliser through substitute Daniel Vasilevski and looked to have all the momentum. Berkeley regained the lead three minutes later, however, when Robert Cull stroked the ball home and made it 3-2. Hajittofi grabbed his second in the 69th minute and again gave Berkeley a two goal lead. In the 76th minute Vasilevski nabbed his second off the bench to put Wests within striking distance; but their hopes were dashed two minutes later when Cull scored his second of the game to make it 5-3. The scoring was wrapped up in the 84th minute through Chris Rowlan.

Rest of the Round

Coniston Lions 2 – 3 Shell Cove FC

League leaders Shell Cove have snatched a last minute victory over the Coniston Lions JJ Kelly Park on Saturday. Shell Cove maintained top spot despite a plucky performance from the last placed Lions.

Goals at either end of the game made for an exciting start and finish to the match. Ile Kostovski opened the scoring in just the 3rd minute for Shell Cove and then added a second just nine minutes later. Only a minute later Brian Sibanda pulled a goal back for Coniston, making it three goals in the first 13 minutes. The game slowed after a haphazard start with only the sending off of FC’s Philip Angelevski for a second yellow card breaking the flow of play.

Two last minute goals made for an exciting finish when moments after Coniston seemed to have sealed a point through Robert Neloski, Robert Jonovski popped up to snatch an unlikely victory for ten man Shell Cove.

Kemblawarra FC 2 – 1 Corrimal Rangers

10th placed Kemblawarra grabbed a surprise win against 2nd placed Corrimal at Albert Butler Park on Saturday.

It was 1-0 at the break but after ten minutes of play Corrimal found an equaliser through substitute Luke Picciolini. Rangers’ comeback was stumped just a minute later when Adem Akkoc hit the back of the net to edge Kemblawarra ahead. To make matters worse for Corrimal, straight after the goal Boris Surla was given a straight red which all but ended any chance of a result for the Rangers.

Ross Graham pulled one back for Uni in the 72nd minute but six minutes later Belsito got his second and put the game out of Uni’s reach. The first part of the second half saw much of the same until Thirroul’s Andrew Bradshaw popped up to give his side the lead in the 65th minute. Thirroul thought they had put the game out of reach when in the 74th minute substitute Nathan Smith scored to make it 2-0.

Warilla never stopped pushing, however, and four minutes later Scott Friedeweld snatched a goal back.
