ILLAWARRA CREDIT UNION DISTRICT LEAGUE RND 8 WRAP

Corrimal Rangers continued their impressive start to the season with a strong four goals to one away victory over Kiama Quarriers.

All the action took place in the opening half where the star of the show was Boris Surla who scored all of Corrimal’s goal in an outstanding striker’s display.

Surla opened the scoring as early as the fourth minute but that was cancelled out by the Quarriers Chris Christodoulou who equalised seven minutes later before the Main Man continued his rampage with further goals in the 26th, 39th & 41st minutes.

Berkeley Sports had a strong win when they defeated Warilla Wanderers at Berkeley Sportsground by two goals to nil. A goal in each half to Cameron Morgan (34’) and Anthony Matthews (78’) was enough to get the Sports a valuable three points.

In a very hard fought physical encounter at Rex Jackson Park, Helensburgh Thistle and Shell Cove FC had to settle for a share of the points in a tough one-one draw.

The Thistle would probably have been happy with their point given that they played the last 30 minutes with ten men after Jason Wellings was sent off for a second bookable offence.

Shell Cove took the lead in the 71st minute when Jason Milosevski scored from a direct free kick that took a slight deflection but nonetheless was a good strike.

The Thistle battled on and were rewarded when Chris Russel came up with an absolute screamer as he curled the ball into the top right hand corner from 20 metres.

At Judy Masters Oval, UOW FC claimed all three points in another tight game against Balgownie Rangers with the outcome decided by a solitary goal scored by Tobias Williams six minutes from time leaving the Magpies frustrated once more and winless after four games played.

There was more late drama at JJ Kelly Park, where Wests Illawarra’s Brad Burleigh came up with the only goal of game against Coniston Lions in the 86th minute.

Both sides played the majority of the second term with ten men after Cono lost their Goal-keeper, James McClelland to a retaliation offence and Wests replacement player, Jake Webster, saw red after receiving a second yellow card.

Despite playing the last third of the match, a player short, after Toby Napper was sent off for a second bookable offence, Oak Flats were able to claim all three points at Keith Bond Oval against
Kemblawarra on the back of a solitary 10th minute goal from Jason Murzevski.

In the remaining game, Thirroul FC made the trip to Hume Oval and came away with a good two goals to one victory over Picton Rangers.
