Match Report
Wollongong Olympic Div 1 defeated Shellharbour Div 2 6 - 1
After a convincing 13 nil win in the first round we knew it wasn't going to be all one way traffic for us against a Shellharbour outfit, who also reached double figures in their AC Rd 1 victory.
The match was played in good spirits and a high intensity from us meant we could dictate play from the start. We knocked the ball around well, holding possession for good periods, we won every aerial challenge and attacked at every opportunity. Most of the play was in Shellharbour’s half and this led to several corners and free kicks around the opposition 18 yard box. One superb free kick from Annie saw us 1 nil up after 10 mins. We continued with this pressure and ultimately 3 more goals were scored which saw Olympic go into the break with a comfortable 4 nil lead. Both teams were feeling the effects of the heat.
At half time I asked the girls for another 45mins of the same. With only 1 game under our belt and the season starting in 2 weeks we needed to finish the full 90mins with good intensity.
I was extremely happy with everybody's contribution. It was a fantastic effort. Goal scorers were Annie Holliday, Sam Clark, Teira Humby, Lucy Woodley, Maddie Harden & Elise Battin.
Sarah Hopkins did tremendously as the stand-in goalkeeper and saving a penalty put that lovely smile back on her face.
Thank you once again girls for a huge effort and thank you to the supporters who came to watch.
